ANNUAL CANVASS 2008

Every Year between August and October, a voter registration form is delivered to every residential address in the Parish.

By law you are required to complete this form with the names of those eligible persons living at the residence.

This form needs to be returned to the Electoral Registration Officer at Melton Borough Council whose function it is to compile the register of electors.

The register of electors is a list of everyone who is eligible to vote and you will need to be on this register before you can vote in any election.

THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION

The electoral Commission is an independent body set up by the UK Parliament whose aim is integrity and public confidence in the democratic process. They:
register political parties
make sure people understand and follow the rules on party and election finance
publish details of where parties and candidates get money from and how they spend it
set the standards for running elections and report on how well this is done
make sure people understand it is important to register to vote, and know how to vote
make sure boundary arrangements for local government in England are fair
